Living tiny doesn’t mean you have to rough it. See how innovative tiny home designers Tyson and Michelle Spiess pack luxurious amenities into custom compact tiny houses measuring 250 square feet or less.

Tyson and Michelle Spiess, husband and wife tiny home design duo and hosts of HGTV’s Tiny Luxury, pride themselves on building fully-functional tiny houses filled with all the comforts of a standard home. With the help of Michelle’s two brothers and their wives, the team crafts custom compact tiny homes using only the highest quality materials and furnishings. Their mantra: downsize, don’t downgrade. Check out some of the luxurious amenities this innovative team packs into each of their gorgeous tiny houses and you might just get inspired to go tiny, too!

1. A DREAM KITCHEN

Because a kitchen in a tiny house is less than half the size of a standard kitchen, splurging on high-end materials is a non-issue. Marble countertops, custom cabinetry and handmade tile backsplashes are all affordable when you only need a few feet of each. In this gorgeous modern space, clients requested butcher block countertops, stainless steel appliances and a sleek stainless steel tile backsplash.

2. AND SPEAKING OF KITCHENS…

Really cool features like this hidden dishwasher and combined washer and dryer are totally feasible and affordable options. Although it doesn’t look like it, this dishwasher can hold up to 7 place settings and 4 large pots and pans.

3. LOTS OF NATURAL LIGHT

Due to heating and cooling costs, picture windows or skylights often aren’t budget-friendly options in a standard home. But in a tiny home, large windows not only aid in air circulation, but make the space feel larger and more open. So you can lay back, watch the stars and sleep soundly knowing you won’t have to pay an electricity bill.

4. A SPA-LIKE BATHROOM

Who doesn’t dream of relaxing in a warm bath at the end of the day? This luxurious tiny bathroom features a full-sized galvanized soaking tub, a relaxing station, spa shower, vessel sink and high-end industrial vanity lights.

5. REAL WOOD ACCENTS

Because a tiny home is built to hit the road, choosing durable, top-of-the-line materials like real hardwood floors, trim and beams is a must. “With less square footage, you need materials that will hold up to constant use,” says Tyson. This luxury tiny home features knotty alder pine trim and beams, red oak hardwood floors and a handcrafted oak staircase.

6. AN ULTRA-COZY BEDROOM

Although you may not enjoy a lot of head space in a tiny house master bedroom, its lofted design and deluge of bright windows offer a quiet, cozy sleeping experience unrivaled by a typical bedroom.

7. CUSTOM FURNITURE

Because you’ll likely need only one or two pieces, ordering handmade, custom furniture like this sleek brown leather sofa is a luxury you can definitely afford.

8. HIGH-END LIGHT FIXTURES

Filling a standard-sized home with these chic, handmade industrial light fixtures would cost thousands of dollars. But because a tiny home requires only a handful, these statement pieces can be integrated into your design at a fraction of the cost.

9. AND THE MOST LUXURIOUS AMENITY?

As one client put it, “Living in a tiny home is freedom. Freedom from rent, freedom from stuff and the freedom to get up and go.”

  2. Hello, we are from Canada. We love your shows from season 1. We were able to watched them all. But unfortunately this season 2, they are not being aired. Will they be in HGTV sometime soon? Also planning to build our tiny house with your company. Is the process easy transporting it to Canada, in terms of laws and cost? Thank you so much and hope for your reply!

  3. I love the tiny homes you build! My question is this- right now I live in Texas but when I retire, I plan to move to Moore Oklahoma. Moore is the major tornado location in the past few years. Are mobile tiny homes safe to live in that area with that kind of tornado history? Thanks!

  5. I just wanted to say that I love your show and have found something to like in every one of the cleverly designed homes. It is because of your show that I started thinking about buying a tiny home. I thank you for that. I look forward to watching your future shows. If I had one “criticism”, I would say that the women should be featured more frequently in the show. I am sure that you all are an intricate part of the design and build process. Therefore, I think your parts should be highlighted. I will be in touch privately regarding specific questions for you. Thank you again for the wonderful part you play in these peoples’ lives. Your work is a blessing to many people.

Yes you can hook up, or fill up. Solar is an option! Head over to our take action page and fill out your info, we will send you more details and a link to get a personalized estimate!

  7. Do you build for older, retired people who do not necessarily want to climb up into a loft for sleeping; maybe one with a separate downstairs bedroom. Love your show, your family, and your homes. My daughter and I record and watch every episode. Thanks.
